Cotton sateen begins its life with cotton fibers that are mercerized to soften the fabric. This process creates the characteristic shine and softness. The cotton fibers are immersed in a special solution - sodium hydroxide, then rinsed in a bath with neutralizing substances. Shine occurs because during this process, the fabric stretches. Cotton sateen fabric resembles sateen, as it has the same weaving structure - four threads on one (4/1). In this way, more fibers are on the surface, which better reflects light, giving shine and a luxurious look to the fabric.
